Impermanence: Happiness in AND out

 Today's musings were supposed to be about the other ways of measuring happiness - to continue yesterday's discussion. However, as is often the case with my journaling, I have come across a new topic that I really want to explore today for a hot minute. So I'll table the "measuring happiness" topic for a later post. Instead, today I want to talk about the concept of Impermanence as I've come to understand it, as well as give an example of where I experienced it just this morning! Impermanence I've been listening to this podcast, recommended to my by my brother in law, called Secular Buddhism . The podcast teaches about some basic concepts of Buddhism from a secular perspective, and I've really enjoyed learning some of these Buddhist concepts as another potential avenue to finding more happiness for myself. What is Happiness and how do I measure my progress?

Post 2 on "how to get and stay happy." Let me just start this one off by saying... I'm definitely not there yet. Yesterday was ROUGH and for reasons that were totally avoidable and totally within my control. Maybe I'll talk a bit about that at the end of this post if there's time.  Today's topics of focus is: What is happiness? How to measure happiness? What Is Happiness Really this question is just a pre-cursor to the next question. My thought process goes like this:  My goal and subsequently the goal of this blog is to "Obtain and maintain happiness" In order to get anywhere, you need to know where that is So, in order to obtain happiness, I really should figure out what exactly happiness is as a start So... here I go. Let's brainstorm on what happiness might be. Getting Started

 Alrighty, this is post number one of my new online journal for "how to get and stay happy". This is a new idea for me - one that is aimed primarily at my self. What I mean by that, is that my goal with this online blog is first and foremost to help me obtain and maintain a state of happiness. If my research and musings on the topic can help anyone else to find their own happiness - then all the better! I'm not sure exactly what this blog will look like as it continues. All I know at this point is that I am planning on dedicating weekly time to the study of happiness and how to obtain and maintain it. This is where my musings from that research will go. It is not formal, it is not contrived, this will be free form from my head.  I've got a few things I looked into this morning about how some other organizations and people measure happiness, as well as some interesting trends from google about the search term "how to be happy".
